Control surfaces that work with mixbus 32c12/29/2023 The eagle-eyed among you will see I've transmitted two messages on MIDI Channel 1, of which the first is B0 50 7F. What I do know about MIDI Monitor, is you'll need to go into Preferences and engage Expert Mode (Yay! We're experts now.), which will show you the raw hexadecimal data coming from your MIDI device. I know that there are similar utilise for other platforms, but as I'm not in a position to run them at the moment, I can't tell you exactly how to use them. But how do we know the controller is sending "B0 2d 7f", and not some other message?įor Mac users, MIDI Monitor is a free utility that does exactly what it says on the tin. (If this wasn't the case, it would be impossible for a musical keyboard to trigger a different note for every piano key.)Īccording to the script, Binding message "B0 2d 7f" should trigger the DAW function "transport-roll", or as we call it, Play. Instead, every every button, fader and dial sends out a unique MIDI message. Now, the DAW doesn't actually know where the various controls are located, or what's written on the tops of the buttons. There are six lines of script above, corresponding to six physical controls and six actions the DAW can perform. ![]() Today has been productive too, but more so concerned with getting all these upgrades of recent weeks talking to each other. Ubuntustudio controls is useful in that it interfaces with Carla and other routing patching utilities, but for Ardour use not so much. I had to throw out my previous experience with various utilities and found that letting Ardour cope with it much easier. What got me in a fluster were the numerous ways to connect/route, and suddenly being faced with a virtual rats nest of routing from nested routing controls resulting in a utter confusion. Ubuntustudio controls is quite handy in that it has incorporated CPU governor controls. Routing has been my main issue, and letting Ardour do it, or rather using it's grid/matrix based routing, was much easier than trying to use other out of program utils. Which turned out to be minimal, ie let Ardour start the Jack server, rather than qJackctl, or Carla or ubuntustudio controls. I didn't get around to trying out the controller options, but did get a little more to grips with the user interface and the most efficient way to start the program (Ardour) and the required support utilities. Yesterday was a productive day, midi and Ardour wise.
